This really is a walker's paradise with a vast array of mountain and forest walks in outstanding scenery. Walkers can choose from the more challenging Mourne Mountain Treks to the more leisurely walks around Tollymore Forest which is adjacent to the property and Castlewellan Forest Park is only a 2 mile drive. The iconic image of the Mourne Mountains from Murlough Nature Reserve is outstanding.

The Silent Valley and Ben Crom Reservoirs that supply most of the water for County Down, surrounding counties and most of Belfast are worth a visit.

Younger guests may enjoy Seaforde Gardens and Tropical Butterfly House. For those happy to brave the elements, Tropicana Pleasure Beach has an outdoor swimming pool.

Dundrum Castle commands fine views over Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains.

There are National Trust properties to visit at Rowallane House in Saintfield, approximately 12 miles away and Castle Ward in Strangford that is about 15 miles away.

There are a number of Horse Riding and Pony Trekking centres in the area that can arrange riding trails through forest parks or on the beaches.

The world famous Royal County Down Golf Course is approximately 3 miles away. In addition there are golf courses at Ardglass, Kilkeel Golf Club and St Patrick’s Golf Club in Downpatrick.

As well as sea fishing you can fish for brown trout and rainbow trout in Castlewellan Lake or for salmon in the clear water and rocky pools of the Shimna River.

For the cyclists, there are 25 km of world class mountain bike trails in Castlewellan Forest Park, suitable for a range of abilities.

For the more energetic guests there are Canoeing and Watersporting opportunities at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre and at Newcastle Yacht Club.

There are spectacular Birdwatching opportunities at Murlough National Nature Reserve and the Quoile Pondage Nature Reserve.
